Operators targeting the ageing population?
Paul Keane

I went into Auckland's Viaduct on Easter Sunday to meet some friends and have lunch. There were very few people about and the restaurant we went to didn't charge a "surcharge" for eating out on Easter Sunday. Maybe people are happy staying home at Easter with their families?

While chatting over lunch, one major issue that we stumbled upon was the major occupations that have contributed most to wealth over the past couple of years over all others.

Fair and reasonable profit; a discussion worth having
Paul Keane

The following table reflects the profit in 2016 over 2015 for the major players in the industry. It's difficult to analyse where the significant portion of the profit for each company came from.

Paul Keane

Last year I commented on the Retirement Village Industry and the need for some careful monitoring of the impact it has on retirees. This is the third item I referred to in last week’s issue of the News in Brief.
