RCG architecture finalist in NZ Property Council Awards

The Paul Keane Gymnasium, completed in February at St Mary's College Auckland is a finalist in the Education category of the Property Council Awards.

Finalists of the 2014 Property Council Awards were recently announced, revealing New Zealand’s top properties. The awards are highly regarded for their focus on outstanding use of capital as well as project innovation, design and construction.

Amongst the finalists is the Paul Keane Gymnasium, a state of the art facility designed by John Long, Director at RCG. The Gym is up for the Coffey Education and Arts Property Award against 6 other properties.

With its monumental frontage and open edges, this multipurpose gymnasium defines the courtyard at the heart of the school and brings with it activity and energy.

The forms of the facility and its architectural finishes respond to the sloping landform and the existing collection of buildings on site.

Views to the city, the harbour and the rest of the school are maintained as a result of a strategy to set the building into the slope. These views connect the students and staff to their city and community.

The College now has a cutting edge gymnasium with a range of capabilities including a competition standard international basketball court and 5 flexible classroom spaces, all of which enhance student learning and physical education.

Intelligently designed to get the best from functional needs and structural solutions, the new St Mary’s College gymnasium offers a state of the art yet commercially sound facility.

The Property Council Awards winners will be announced 6 June 2014. RCG sponsor the Retail Property Award category of the Property Council of New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknell Property Industry Award.
