Wrapping up this year & looking ahead to the next

If you haven't finished your planning for your end to the year, then you have pretty much run out of time. That period form Labour Weekend to Christmas simply flies by.

We all know when Christmas is, but it seems to creep up on everybody anyway, and we all end up panicking to do things we should have completed weeks previously. This year is no exception.

Intriguing activity in the lead-up to Christmas 2016

It’s just three weeks out from Christmas and there is some intriguing activity amongst some companies. It would seem that the approaching Christmas period brings out either the best or worst in companies; depending on your point of view.

Commercial impact of Kaikoura quake

The Kaikoura earthquake of 14th November is having a wide reaching impact on property owners and retailers. Not only were commercial business activities in Kaikoura seriously affected by the loss of access to the town, but Wellington was also badly affected, with the demolition of some buildings being required.

Retailers return to Christchurch CBD

Last week’s opening of a new fashion zone in central Christchurch, including Glassons, Hallenstein Brothers and a Mecca ‘Maxima’, effectively signalled the return of retail activity to the heart of Christchurch city.  It is an indication to the people of Christchurch and New Zealand that the resolve of property owners and retailers to re-establish in the city centre is still strong.

Tiffany's lands in Takutai Square

Some 15 years ago I was in the USA on business with a colleague when he decided to purchase an engagement ring for his partner. He spent some time making the selection (with some assistance from me) and headed home happily with the Tiffany's engagement ring secured in its special box. The engagement, by the way, was secured, and I assume at some point in the future the couple will marry!
