Mico is New Zealand’s premier plumbing supplies merchandiser for bathrooms, kitchens and laundries.

Crane Distribution is an example of how a large corporate, with multiple brands and formats, wanted to become more of a retailer, able to add value and improve margins.

RCG was initially commissioned to conduct a store-planning audit for the new Mico Plumbing outlet in Christchurch. This rapidly expanded into the design of the new Mico model-store format and brand identity, which included the design of a modular showroom display system.

As the brief expanded we designed and documented four new Mico stores and refurbished all other existing outlets throughout New Zealand.

As part and parcel of the project, we also undertook an extensive research and strategy project for the Auckland region, which identified catchments and gaps in the Mico network.

The work RCG undertook for Crane was so successful that the business commissioned RCG to provide services for all their brands, e.g. Mastertrade, Cory’s Electrical and Equip Safety. We created new store models and brand identities, designed new buildings and renovated networks.

RCG also designed the fit outs for Crane Distribution’s regional offices and their New Zealand support office.
