Rotorua Museum

Rotorua District Council, owners of the Museum’s Visitor and Cultural facilities, wanted to improve the performance of their on-site commercial, retail, food and beverage facilities.

The Museum, a heritage building, is a leading Rotorua destination and tourism icon.

The first step was to create a fully customised retail strategy that would capitalise the building’s taonga (treasured) nature. This included benchmarking their performance against other national facilities in our database and looking at their site visitor flows, behaviour and experience.

With these insights, we were able to master plan the changes to improve the customer journey and help drive new sales, while reducing costs and staffing requirements.

Our recommendations to improve productivity and revenues included, deploying better facility branding; more effective store layout planning and making changes to the products and services merchandising mix.
